Colby diary, p. 44 (August 22, 1858) Description An account of the resource Transcript: 44 Same Evening 24th It is now nearly midnight - I've been sitting up alone for an hour or two writing and holding silent communion with a picture, the shadowy face of Annie. Strange how much of companionship I found in those eyes to night and how much of inspiration my spirit has caught from hers just now. Since I had undressed I went as usual to take one lingering look out upon the night. "Gloriously beautiful! What a picture!" was the first exclamation that comes from my lips and I felt that such a picture of silent beauty were worth living [but?] to look upon. I'm happier now than I was two hours ago. Wonder what is the reason. My pen, like David's harp, has exorcised the blues, and I feel that I shall ever be happier for this silent vigil, and that I've seen the glorious night scene.
